French Single: Bob Morgan
French 2x8, 56-note range (GG-d3) harpsichord, buff stop, A415, transposing keyboard.
The project began with an order to ZHI for the "French Jr" kit in July, 1995. Demand exceeded supply, so while I waited, ZHI FAXed a sketch of the harpsichord leg, and from that I sketched out the bench. A little lathe work fashioned some legs, and soon thereafter the bench was completed. After attending a weekend seminar in Stonington, I received the big box, and started working on the case in November, 1995. The case assembly was not difficult, and the soundboard was trimmed, thinned, ribbed, and the bridge fitted.
After completion of much of the case and installation of the soundboard and bridge, repetitive stress injury to my hands (alas, I was then a full time computer geek, aggravating the injury) forced me to stop construction. All I then could do is look at the partially completed instrument and hope that some day I could finish it.
Eighteen months went by with no significant work. The project was then shipped to ZHI's Stonington CT shop and completed. The instrument delivered in January 1999. <><
